Explanation:

Let's say x is the width, or the short side and 2x is the long side or length (since the long side is twice as long as the short side).

let's add those together.

x+2x

But with a perimeter, you have two short sides and two long sides. so let's multiply this expression by two.

2(x+2x)

multiply the two by each number.

2x+4x
