Our goal here is to isolate
x on one side of the equals sign


360 = 2x + y

Here we have 2 terms on the right side of the equals sign,
2x and
y

in order isolate the
x term we must subtract
y

However, if we subtract
y from one side of the equation we must also do the same to the other side to a maintain balanced equation.


360 = 2x + y

-y
-y


360 - y = 2x

Now to remove "2" from
2x we must do the opposite of multiplication, which is division.


(360)/(2) - (y)/(2) = (2x)/(2)

simplify.


180 - (y)/(2) = x
