The total surface area of the solid shape is 54 cm². (Option D).

How to calculate the surface area of the composite figure?

The surface area of the composite figure is calculated by applying the following formula as shown below;

total surface area = area of shape 1 + area of shape 2 + area of shape 3 + area of shape 4 + area of shape 5 + area of shape 6 + area of shape 7 + area of shape 8 + area of shape 9 + area of shape 10

total surface area = (3 cm x 1 cm) + (1 cm x 3 cm) + (3 cm x 3 cm) + ( 1 cm x 3 cm ) + ( 3 cm x 3 cm ) + (1 cm x 3 cm) + ( 1 cm x 3 cm ) + ( 4 cm x 3 cm ) + (1 cm x 3 cm) + (3 cm x 2 cm)

total surface area = 3 cm² + 3 cm² + 9 cm² + 3 cm² + 9 cm² + 3 cm² + 3 cm² + 12 cm² + 3 cm² + 6 cm²

total surface area = 54 cm²

So the total surface area of the solid shape is 54 cm².
