The dot plot represents a sampling of ACT scores:

dot plot titled ACT Scores with Score on the x axis and Number of Students on the y axis with 1 dot over 18, 3 dots over 19, 4 dots over 21, 4 dots over 22, 3 dots over 23, 2 dots over 24, 1 dot over 25

Answer:

  • A. With numbers 18, 21, 22, 23 and 25

Explanation:

Lets analyze the dot plot and work out 5 numbers.

We see the minimum score is 18 and maximum score is 25, these are the two numbers.

The scores

  • 18 , 19, 19, 19, 21, 21, 21, 21, 22, 22, 22, 22, 23, 23, 23, 24, 24, 25

Median of the data:

  • (22 + 22)/2 = 22

Lower half

  • 18 , 19, 19, 19, 21, 21, 21, 21, 22
  • Median of lower half = 21

Upper half

  • 22, 22, 22, 23, 23, 23, 24, 24, 25
  • Median of upper half = 23

We now have 5 number summary:

  • 18, 21, 22, 23 and 25

Looking at the box plots, we see the first one is reflecting the numbers we got.
