Larry is 8 years older than his sister. in 3 years he will be twice as old as she is now. how old are they now?

Explanation:

If L is Larry's age, and S is his sister's age, then:

L = S + 8

L + 3 = 2S

Solve with substitution.

S + 8 + 3 = 2S

11 = S

His sister is 11, and Larry is 19.
