We can solve this equation by first distributing the "2" to the variables inside of the parentheses:

2(x+3)=x-4

2(x)+2(3)=x-4

Simplify

2x+6=x-4

Move like terms to one side. Be careful while moving terms because if you move a term from one side to another, it's sign flips (Ex: "+" becomes "-")

2x-x=-6-4

x=-10
