3(x-4)+5=2(x-3)+4

3x-12+5=2x-6+4

3x-7=2x-2

x-7=-2

x=5

Here is the two column proof:

Statement Reason

  • 3(x - 4) + 5 = 2(x - 3) + 4 Given
  • 3x - 12 + 5 = 2x - 6 + 4 Distribution property of multiplication
  • 3x - 7 = 2x - 2 Addition property of equality
  • 3x - 2x = - 2 - (-7) Subtraction property of equality
