environmental degradation and destruction caused by green revolution include soil degradation, water depletion, biodiversity loss, chemical pollution and energy consumption

Effects of green revolution

Soil damage: Using a lot of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the Green Revolution can harm the soil over time. Using too much of these things can make the soil not as healthy and make it easier for soil to wash away.

The Green Revolution introduced new crop types that need a lot of water to grow. Taking too much water from rivers, lakes, and underground sources can cause a shortage of water, use up the water supply, and throw off the balance of ecosystems in the water.

When people started growing only a few kinds of crops that produce a lot of food during the Green Revolution, it caused a decrease in the variety of plants and animals used in farming. Old types of crops and seeds that were used before have been changed and this has led to a decrease in the different types of genes and an increase in the chances of crops getting harmed by pests, diseases, and changes in the weather.

Using a lot of chemical fertilizers and pesticides can make the water and air dirty. Water from farms can dirty rivers and lakes. Chemicals used on farms can build up in nature and hurt animals that are not the target. This can mess up how nature works.

The Green Revolution needs a lot of energy to work. It uses things like man-made fertilizers, machines, and water systems. This means that using a lot of energy creates greenhouse gases, which make climate change worse and harm the environment.
