The measurement of the rectangles:

w = 2.3km or 6.4 km

l = 2.3 km or 6.4 km

How to find the perimeter and area of a rectangle?

The formula for perimeter of a rectangle is:

P = 2(l + w)

where:

l is length

w is width

Thus:

2(l + w) = 17.4

l + w = 8.7 km -----(1)

Formula for its' area is:

A = lw

Thus:

lw = 14.72 km² ----(2)

From eq 1, we have:

l = 8.7 - w

Thus:

w(8.7 - w) = 14.72

8.7w - w² = 14.72

w² - 8.7w + 14.72 = 0

Using quadratic equation calculator, we have:

w = 2.3km or 6.4 km

Thus:

l = 8.7 - 6.4 or 8.7 - 2.3

l = 2.3 km or 6.4 km

Complete question is:

The perimeter of a rectangle is 17.4km, and its area is 14.72km². Find the dimensions of the rectangle?
