Explanation:

Since both equations are = y ....just equate them (or substitute the first equation into the second one ) to get:

-5x-7 = 10x+8 add 5x and subtract 8 from both sides of the equation

-15 = 15 x

x = -1 use this value in either equation to calculate y = -2
