A snail traveling at 13 inches/hr leaves the tree stump at
6:00am and heads for the pond. 1 hour later, a frog hops
out of the pond and heads for the tree stump at 40
inches/hr. If the pond and the stump are 20 feet apart, at
what time does the frog pass the snail?

Explanation:

The closing speed between the two critters is

13 in/hr + 40 inches / hr = 53 inches per hour

at 53 inches per hour, the 20 ft ( which is 240 inches...then less the 13 inches the snail has already crawled ) ) will be travelled in

( 240-13) inches / 53 inches/hr = ~4 hour 17 minutes after the frog starts

which would be 7 AM + 4 :17 = 11:17 AM
