Explanation: The narrator is showing how these people can be like civilized persons the term barbarian is used to show how uncivilized someone can be, so when the narrator states they are no such thing this is showing how they are more like us than you may think.

Answer: A

Explanation: Nothing about happiness is mentioned, and it doesn’t suggest that we are barbarians. By saying they were NOT barbarians, the narrator is saying they are alike, because presumably the narrator is not a barbarian either.
