Ok so ignore the answer the other dude gave. It’s NOT 12.
He was right about how to solve it but he solved it wrong.

A^2+B^2=C^2
so to get the answer we know
C is 30km which makes C^2= 900
We also know
A is 18km which is A^2=324.
Now to get B^2 we do C^2-A^2
So 900-324 and we get 576
We get the square root of 576 which is 24

So the answer is 24km

Answer:

24 km

Explanation:

You want the missing leg length 'a' in the right triangle with leg b = 18 km and hypotenuse c = 30 km.

Pythagorean theorem

The Pythagorean theorem tells you the relationship between the sides of a right triangle is ...

c² = a² +b²

Using the given values, we have ...

30² = a² +18²

900 = a² +324 . . . . evaluate the squares

a² = 576 . . . . . . . . . subtract 324

The value of 'a' is found by taking the square root of both sides of the equation:

a = √576 = 24

The length of the missing leg is a = 24 kilometers.
