From his house, Jason rode his bike 1 1/3 miles to the post office. He then rode in the same direction to the park, which is 1/4 of a miles from the post office. How far did Jason ride? 1. To the right, draw a picture to represent the problem to be solved. Let x = the distance Jason rode from his house to the park.

The total distance that Jason rode from his house to the park is 1
(7)/(12) miles.

The total distance, in this situation, can be determined by addition of the two distances that Jason covered while riding his bike from his house to the post office and from there to the park.

The distance that Jason rode his bike from his house to the post office = 1
(1)/(3)

The distance that Jason rode his bike from the post office to the park =
(1)/(4)

The total distance that Jason rode his bike (from his house to the park), x x = (1
(1)/(3) +
(1)/(4))

x = (
(4)/(3) +
(1)/(4))

x =
(19)/(12)

x = 1
(7)/(12)

Thus, we can conclude that Jason rode a total of
(19)/(12) miles or 1
(7)/(12) miles.
