Two speakers are driven exactly out of phase with each other at 256 Hz. If a microphone placed on the line between the two speakers, exactly in the middle, detects no sound at all, then what is possibly the distance between the microphone and each speaker? The speed of sound is 340 m/s.

The distance between the microphone and each of the speakers is 87040 m

What is the speed of sound?

The speed of sound depends on the medium through which it travels, such as air, water, or solids, and is influenced by factors like temperature and density. Sound travels faster in denser materials like water and solids compared to gases like air.

We know that;

Speed of sound = wavelength * frequency

Frequency = 256 Hz

speed of sound = 340 m/s

wavelength = 256 Hz * 340 m/s

= 87040 m
