There are many cylinders with a height of 18 meters. Let represent the radius in meters and represent the volume in cubic meters.

1. Write an equation that represents the volume as a function of the radius .

2.Complete this table, giving three possible examples.

3. If the radius of a cylinder is doubled, does the volume double? Explain how you know.

Answer:

Explanation:

1). Equation that represents the volume of a cylinder,

V = πr²h

Here, r = radius of the cylinder

h = Height of the cylinder

2). Fromm the given formula of volume,

r(In m) V(In cubic meters)

1 56.55

2 226.19

3 508.94

3). If the radius is doubled from 1 m to 2 m,

At r = 1 m, Volume (V₁) = 56.55 m³

At r = 2 m, Volume (V₂) = 226.19

(V_2)/(V_1)=(226.19)/(56.55)

= 4

Therefore, volume is not doubled when radius of the cylinder is doubled.
