The value of the impulse supplied to the gun, given that the 10 g bullet eaves the barrel of gun with a velocity of 600 m/s is 6Ns (option 2)

How to calculate the impulse supplied to the gun?

Impulse is defined as the product of force and time.

Impulse = Force × time

However, impulse supplied to an object is considered as the change in the momentum of the object in the opposite direction. Thus,

Impulse = Change in momentum of object

Now, we shall calculate the impulse supplied to the gun. This is shown below:

  • Mass of bullet = 10 g / 1000 = 0.01 Kg
  • Velocity of bullet = 600 m/s
  • Impulse =?

Impulse = Mass of bullet × velocity of bullet

= 0.01 × 600

= 6 Ns

Therefore, the correct answer is option 2
