The length of the canvas 5m wide to make the required tent is 1,946.22 m.

How to calculate the length of the canvas?

The length of the canvas is calculated by applying the following formula as shown below.

Area of the canvas of length (L) and width (W) = Curved surface area of the tent.

Area of the canvas = curved surface area of cylindrical portion + curved surface area of the conical portion

L × W = 2πrH + πrL₁

where;

  • H is the height of the cylindrical portion = 3 m
  • L₁ is the slant height of the conical portion = 53 m
  • r is the radius of cylindrical end = D/2 = 105 m/2 = 52.5 m
  • W is the width of the canvas = 5 m

L × 5 = 2π(52.5 x 3) + π(52.5 x 53)

5L = 9731.08

L = 9731.08 / 5

L = 1,946.22 m
