A shed consists of a cuboid surmounted by half cylinder, as shown in the figure. If the base of the shed is 7 m x 15 m and height of the cuboidal part is 8 m, find the volume of air contained in the shed. Also, find the internal surface area excluding the floor.

The volume of air contained in the shed is 1128 m³

The surface area of the shed is 555.42 m²

How to find the volume

The volume is solved by splitting the structure and solving for the volume of the individual sections. Then we add together

Volume of the section

= volume of half cylinder + volume of cuboid

= 1/2 π r² h + h * w * l

= (1/2 * π * 3.5² * 15) + (15 * 8 * 7)

= 288.634 + 840

= 1128.634

= 1128 m³

Internal surface area

= (π r h + π r²) + 2(l * w + h* l)

= (π * 3.5 * 15 + π * 3.5²) + 2(8 * 7 + 15* 8)

= 203.42 + 352

= 555.42 m²

A shed consists of a cuboid surmounted by half cylinder, as shown in the figure. If-example-1
