The volume (in m3) of water in my (large) bathtub when I pull out the plug is given by f(t)=4−t2 (t is in minutes). This formula is only valid for the two minutes it takes my bath to drain.

in this bit is a very small number. find the average rate the water leaves my tub between and . (simplify this as much as possible!)

Answer:

-3 m³/min

Explanation:

t = 1:

f(1) = 4 - 1² = 3

f(2) = 4 - 2² = 0

average rate = [f(2) - f(1)]/(2 - 1)

average rate = (0 - 3)/1 = -3
