and

(1)/(2) y = 3

substitute x = 2y - 3 into 2x +
(1)/(2) y = 3

2(2y - 3) +
(1)/(2) y = 3 ← distribute parenthesis

4y - 6 +
(1)/(2) y = 3 ( add 6 to both sides )

4y +
(1)/(2) y = 9 ( multiply through by 2 to clear the fraction )

8y + y = 18

9y = 18 ( divide both sides by 9 )
