The migration of the first people to the Americas from Asia is believed to have occurred during the last Ice Age, primarily through a land bridge known as Beringia.
How this migration likely took place
During the last Ice Age, which lasted from about 2.6 million years ago to 11,700 years ago, much of Earth's water was locked up in glaciers, resulting in lower sea levels.
A land bridge called Beringia emerged between northeastern Asia (present-day Siberia) and northwestern North America. This land bridge connected the two continents.
