CH₃MgBr + HCHO → CH₃OH + MgBr₂

Primary alcohol because the Grignard reagent (CH₃MgBr) will react with the aldehyde to form a carbon-carbon bond at the carbon atom next to the carbonyl carbon.

Magnesium halide salt because the Grignard reagent is protonated by the water molecule to form the primary alcohol and the magnesium halide salt. In the image, the aldehyde is formaldehyde (HCHO), so the primary alcohol produced will be methanol (CH₃OH).
