The table below is a record of the number of miles driven between stops for gas and the amount of money spent to fill up the gas tank in Avery’s car over several months.

Step 2 of 2: If Avery needs to drive 295
miles home from college and leaves with a full tank, how much should she budget to fill up when she gets home? Assume the regression equation is appropriate for prediction. Round your answer to the nearest cent.

The linear regression equation which models the data is : y = 0.075X + 0.290. The amount that should be budgeted for fill up is $22.42

Using a linear regression calculator. we can obtain the linear regression equation for the data given in the form :

  • y = bx + c
  • b = slope ; c = intercept

The linear equation gotten is :

  • y = 0.075X + 0.290

2.)

For a distance of 295 Miles ; x = 295

y = 0.075(295) + 0.290

y = 22.415 ≈ 22.42

Therefore, the amount that should be budgeted for fill up is $22.42
