The number of voters that should be sampled is 363

Using the Margin of Error formula :

  • Margin of Error = Zcritical × √(p * (1 - p)) / n
  • Zcritical at 95% = 1.96
  • p = 0.62

Substituting our values into the formula:

4.99% = 1.96 × √(0.62 * 0.38) / n

0.0499 = 1.96 × √0.2356/n

0.0254591837 = √0.2356/n

square both sides

0.00064817 = 0.2356/n

0.00064817n = 0.2356

n = 363.48

n ≈ 363 samples
