m being the slope

and b being the y intercept

we have the slope, but we need to find the y intercept. first, plot (1,1) you can use a sheet of graph paper, demos or just a little grid on scrap paper. then you want to create another point on your graph using the slope, in this case 3 would be 3/1 so you go from your plotted point 3 units down, then 1 unit to the left. keep on plotting points until you identify your y intercept, where a plotted point goes through y axis. this is -2, which will be B in the equation.
