The value of y in the diagram is 3.89.

What is the value of y?

The figure above is a square.

There are 4 equal sides and angles in a square.

Angle F = Angle K = Angle L = Angle H = 90°

So,

In angle H

7y ° + (2y + 55)° = 90°

open parenthesis

7y + 2y + 55 = 90

Subtract 55 from both sides

9y = 90 - 55

9y = 35

Divide both sides by 9

y = 35/9

y = 3.89

Therefore, y equals 3.89
