Let's call your number "x". The equation we have to solve is:

(4x + 4) - 6 = x

Simplifying the equation gives us:

4x + 4 - 6 = x

4x + 4 - 6 - x = x - x

3x + 4 = 0

Now we can solve for x:

3x = -4

x = -4/3

So your number is -4/3.
