Answer:

a) m = (27.5 - 23.5)/(9 - 3) = 4/6 = 2/3

23.5 = (2/3)(3) + b

23.5 = 2 + b

b = 21.5

y = (2/3)x + 21.5

b) x = 180

y = (2/3)(180) + 21.5 = 120 + 21.5

= 141.5 inches = about 12 feet

c) As the girl gets older, her height will

increase (she will grow taller).

The linear equation is : y = 2x/3 + 21.5 ; For a 15 year old girl, height would be 31.5 inches, The conclusion is height increases as age increases.

The linear model can be written in the form : y = bx + c

  • b = slope ; c = intercept

Using the pair of points : (3, 23.5) ; (9, 27.5)

b = rise / Run

b = (27.5 - 23.5) / (9 - 3) = 4/6 = 2/3 = 1.667

y = 1.667x + c

Using the point (3, 23.5)

23.5 = 2/3(3) + c

23.5 = 2 + c

c = 21.5

The linear equation is : y = 2x/3 + 21.5

b.)

For age = 15 years ; x = 15

y = 2(15)/3 + 21.5

y = 10 + 21.5

y = 31.5 inches

c.)

From the model, we can conclude that, height increases as age increases.
