A recipe used 2/3 cup of sugar for every 2 teaspoons of butter. How much sugar was used per teaspoon of butter

to find this out, we must first find the proportional relationship between the first 2 values of the sugar and the butter

2/3c sugar to 2 teaspoons butter

then we figure out what we changed on one side of the equation above and do the same on the other side

2/3c sugar = 2t butter

2t butter / 2 = 1t butter

now to apply this to the other side of the =

(2/3c sugar / 2) = (2t butter / 2)

1/3c sugar = 1t butter

this process is very versatile and can be used to find out many problems like this, say you need to figure out how much sugar you need for 4t butter, all you have to do is multiply instead of divide
