Salos records indicate that if Blu-ray players are priced at $180, then a large store sells an average of 14 units per day. If they are priced at $120, then the store sells an average of 28 units per day. Find and graph the linear demand function for Blu-ray sales. For what prices is the demand function defined? The linear demand function for Blu-ray sales is d- (Type an expression using p as the variable. Use Integers or simplified fractions for any numbers in the equation)

The linear demand function for Blu-ray sales is y = -7/30 x + 98

The price p cannot be negative, so the demand function is defined for P>0

How to find the equation

Assuming

  • p represent the price of the Blu-ray player, and
  • d represent the number of units sold per day.

given that:

(p₁, d₁) = (180, 14)

(p₂, d₂) = (120, 28) \)

The slope, m

m = (28 - 14) / (120 - 180)

m = 14/-60

m = -7/30

Using the point-slope form of the equation for a line

d - 14 = -7/30 (p - 180)

d - 14 = -7/30 p + 84

d = -7/30 p + 98

So, the linear demand function for Blu-ray sales is d = -7/30 p + 98.
