The solution to the system of equations is (4.29, -5.87)

How to determine the solution to the system of equations

From the question, we have the following parameters that can be used in our computation:

3x + y = 7

-2x + 3/4y = -13

Make y the subject of the formula in the first equation

So, we have

y = 7 - 3x

Substitute y = 7 - 3x into the equation -2x + 3/4y = -13

-2x + 3/4(7 - 3x) = -13

Multiply through by 4

-8x + 3(7 - 3x) = -52

So, we have

-8x + 21 - 9x = -52

Evaluate the like terms

-17x = -73

x = -73/-17

x = 4.29

Recall that

y = 7 - 3x

So, we have

y = 7 - 3 * 4.29

y = -5.87

Hence, the solution to the system is (4.29, -5.87)
