Explanation:

Multiply the entire equation by x + 1 to get :

x+1 / x - 1 = 4(x+1) and now multiply the entire equation by 'x' to get

(x+1) - x = 4 ( x+1) x

(x+1 - x ) = 4 ( x^2 + x)

1 = 4 ( x^2 +x) simplify and re-arrange

1 = 4x^2 + 4x subtract '1' from both sides of the equation to get:

4 x^2 + 4 x - 1 = 0 use Quadratic formula with a = 4 b= 4 and c = -1

( plug these values into the Quadratic Formula below and calculate)

to find x = - 1/2 ± 1/2 sqrt(2)

For a Quadratic Equation of the form

a x^2 + b x + c = 0

use the Quadratic Formula to find the values of 'x' ....

here is the Quadratic Formula :
