The values of x and y are

1. x = 7 , y = 18

2. x = 15. y = 6

1. The sum of angles in a triangle is 180°.

Therefore;

11x - 9 + 6x -2 + 72 = 180

17x +61 = 180

17x = 180 - 61

17x = 119

x = 119/17

x = 7

11x - 9

= 77 - 9

= 68°

therefore in the second triangle

68 + 30+5y - 8 = 180

5y - 8 = 180 - 98

5y - 8 = 82

5y = 90

y = 18

2. Using exterior angle theorem

9x + 4 = 86+ 4x -7

5x = 79 -4

5x = 75

x = 15

4x - 7 = 60-7 = 53

7y - 1 = 180 -( 53 + 86)

7y - 1 = 180 - 139

7y - 1 = 41

7y = 42

y = 6
