The calculated values of x and y are x = 5 and y = 3

How to determine the values of x and y

From the question, we have the following parameters that can be used in our computation:

The figure

Where, we have that

The line segment MN bisects the triangle

This means that

AN = NB

MN = 1/2CB

Substitute the known values into the equation

4y = 6(y - 1)

2(x + 4) = 4x - 2

This gives

4y = 6y - 6

2y = 6

y = 3

2(x + 4) = 4x - 2

2x + 8 = 4x - 2

2x = 10

x = 5

Hence, the values of x and y are x = 5 and y = 3
