The scale factor of the dilation is equal to 3.

How to determine the scale factor of dilation

Herein we must determine the scale factor of a dilation whose center of dilation is at point A. Because of this operation, point C' is the image of point C. The dilation formula is represented below:

AC' = k · AC

Where:

  • AC - Length of segment AC.
  • k - Scale factor
  • AC' - Length of segment AC' (Image of segment AC).

If we know that AC = 3 and AC' = 9, then the scale factor is:

k = (AC')/(AC)

k = (9)/(3)

k = 3

Line segment AC' is the result of dilating line segment AC with a scale factor of 3.
