The value of BC is 5x - 19

Using the midpoint principle ;

  • AC = AB + BC
  • AC = 8x - 20 ; AB = 3x - 1

substitute into the midpoint expression ;

8x - 20 = 3x - 1 + BC

8x - 3x = -1 + 20 + BC

5x = 19 + BC

BC = 5x - 19

Hence, BC = 5x -19
