The relationship between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag, a Native American tribe originally living in the New England area, changed significantly after the initial 50 years of peaceful coexistence. The Wampanoag welcomed the Pilgrims to their land and shared their knowledge of farming techniques, which helped the Pilgrims establish a successful colony in Plymouth. However, over time, tensions began to rise between the two groups due to various factors, including disputes over landuse, cultural differences, and the growth of European colonial expansion into Native American territories. The Wampanoag were also affected by the spread of European diseases which were devastating to their population.In 1675, a conflict between the Wampanoag and European settlers erupted in what is known as King Philip's War, which ended with the defeat of the Wampanoag and the loss of their lands. After that, the relationship between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag was never the same again.
