A representation of the direct relation equation
y = (4)/(3)\cdot x is shown in the image attached below.

How to determine the constant of proportionality

In this problem we find an example of direct relation, that is, a relation of the form:

y ∝ x

y = k · x

Where:

  • x - Number of grams of gold in the alloy.
  • y - Number of grams of nickel in the alloy.
  • k - Constant of proportionality.

First, choose a point of the direct relation:

P(x, y) = (6, 8)

Second, find the constant of proportionality:

k = (y)/(x)

k = (8)/(6)

k = (4)/(3)

Third, write the direct relation formula:

y = (4)/(3)\cdot x

A representation of the direct relationship is shown below.
