The area of the composite rectangle expressed as the sum of the areas of the smaller component rectangles that form the figure can be presented as follows;

Area of the figure = 2·A² + 10·x + 8

The steps by which the area of the figure can be obtained is presented as follows;

The area of the rectangular figure is the sum of the areas of the smaller rectangles that make up the figure

The area of the figure, A, is therefore;

A = x + x + x + x + x + x + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + x² + x² + x + x + x + x

Collecting like terms, we get;

A = x + x + x + x + x + x + x + x + x + x + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + x² + x²

A = 10·x + 8 + 2·x²

A = 2·x² + 10·x + 8

Area of the figure is; A = 2·x² + 10·x + 8
