Preventing freezing in vertical dry wells can involve the application of freezing point depression methods, such as using salts or adding heat through cables. Insulation and spraying protective water layers that release heat are also effective strategies.

To prevent freezing in vertical dry wells, a few methods can be utilized. Adding substances like salt can lower the freezing point of water, which is beneficial not only for roads but also can be applicable for wells. Insulating materials may also be used to maintain higher temperatures within the well. Another technique is to incorporate heat cables or other heating elements that prevent the temperature from dropping to the freezing point.

Based on the latent heat of fusion, spraying water on the well's structure could create a protective ice layer, releasing heat and thus preventing further temperature decrease. This concept is analogous to how water is intentionally sprayed on orchards to form a protective ice layer that releases heat and prevents temperatures from falling too low, as seen in Figure 14.10.
