My first tip would be to label your triangles.

If you find our reference angle and go across, that would be our opposite side, so x is the opposite side.

The line with both the reference angle and the right angle would be our adjacent side, so 40 would be the adjecent side.

If you find the right angle and go across, that would be our hypotenuse.

//

In this problem, we are given an angle and the adjacent side and we are looking for the opposite side, so that means that we would be using our tangent ratio.

tan = (opp)/(adj) = (x)/(40)

\tan(43) = (x)/(40)

if the thing you are looking for is on the numerator, we would have to multiply. If the thing you're looking for is in the denominator, you would have to divide.

Since x is on the numerator, we would have to multiply.

x = 40 \tan(43 )

x = 37.3006034455

x = 37.30
