Answer: Since the ball is free-falling, you use this equation:

v^2 = 2gh

where v is the velocity

g is the acceleration due to gravity

h is the height at which the object is dropped from

Plugging in the values and converting ft to m,

v^2 = 2 (9.8) (12) (0.3)

v = 8.4 m/s
