JoAnnes Fabric Store has two rolls of Dallas Cowboys fabric.

One roll is \large 10\frac{7}{8} yards and the other roll is \large 12\frac{1}{4}yards.

Patricia is making 4 pillow cases with the fabric

and each pillow case requires \large 4\frac{3}{8} yards of the fabric.

How many yards of fabric is left on the rolls at Joannes Fabric Store

after Patricia bought what she needed?

The length of fabric left on the rolls at JoAnne's Fabric Store is
5 (5)/(8) yards

The steps used to find the number of yards of fabric left on the rolls are presented as follows;

Length of one of the rolls of Dallas Cowboys fabric =
\large 10(7)/(8) yards

Length of the other roll of Dallas Cowboys fabric =
\large 12(1)/(4) yards

Number of pillow cases Patricia is making = 4 pillow cases

Length of fabric each pillow case requires =
\large 4(3)/(8)

The total length of Dallas Cowboy fabric at JoAnnes Fabric Store =
\large 10 (7)/(8) + 12(1)/(4) = 23(1)/(8) yards

Length of 4 pillow cases =
4 * \large 4(3)/(8) = 17(1)/(2)

Length of fabric left on the rolls, L, is therefore;

23(1)/(8)-17(1)/(2) = 5 (5)/(8) yards
