The Kirkland’s have a pool in their backyard that can hold a maximum of 4,500 gallons of water. The pool already contains 1,500 gallons of water. Mr. Kirkland begins to add more water at a rate of 30 gallons per minute. Answer:

100 minutes (or 1 hour and 40 minutes)

Explanation:

to start I subtracted 4,500( how much it can hold) by 1,500 (how much it has already) to get 3,000.

4500 - 1500 = 3000 (300 + 1500 = 4500)

so the pool would need 3,000 more gallons of water to reach the limit,

then divide 3,000 by 30 to know how many 30 gallows would be needed to reach the limit

3,000 ÷ 30 = 100 (100 x 30 = 3,00 so this is correct)


He would need to add water for 100m to avoid exceeding the limit.
