How are total eclipses of the Sun and the moon are similar?

Answer:

When either the moon or the Earth completely blocks out the sun, a complete eclipse occurs, and a partial eclipse occurs when only half of the sun or moon is blocking out. Solar eclipses will also be annular, which means that the moon is in its orbit at its furthest position, where the sun would not be entirely blocked out. so basically both block the sun its just one does it complete and the other not so completely.
