looking in the mirror may mean analyzing yourself like giving yourself therapye
butterfly can also mean life after death or no death but change even tho it looks like it (the caterpillar died)
worms if you cut them in half they regenerate so it looks like they became 2 worms which looks like a person in the mirror like there are 2 of the same person
so maybe the author is saying he is still same person even with different choices or even with change?

caterpillar radically transforms its body, eventually emerging as a butterfly
the worm is the start, the butterfly is the end. Life flourishes tells us that Life represents the worm and the butterfly, represents death. It questions which one is more realistic (i guess?) in the first line
