History. (2020, September 19). The Grand Canyon Explained | How the Earth Was Made

While watching The Grannd Canyon video: How the Earth Was Made Documentary? I will critique and analyze the video. The A&E Television Networks gave us insight into how the Grand Canyon was formed over 80 million years ago, but it was in 1869 when John Wesley Powell (Pioneer Explorationist) discovered the Colorado river that can hold up to all the water on Earth. this has been baffling, even puzzled scientists for more than a Century. It is one of the World's Natural Wonders, Dr. Karlstrom, Dr. Pederso, and Dr. Douglass video was informational on the examples of finding out How the Grand Canyon was created. I was able to fully understand and engage with the video, the details of the video were clear with the topic of the Grand Canyon. The video was visually clear and focused on every aspect of the information that was given, overall, the video was captivating.

The Grand Canyon's formation is a result of erosion by the Colorado River over millions of years, showcasing a vast geological history referenced in sketches by explorers like John Wesley Powell. Its age is debated, with some evidence suggesting origins as far back as the Laramide orogeny.

  • The formation of the Grand Canyon is a subject of great geologic importance, studied extensively for its comprehensive record of geologic time and the processes that shaped it.
  • According to the information provided, it seems evident that the canyon was formed by the persistent action of water erosion through rock layers over a span of millions of years.
  • The Colorado River, which runs through the Grand Canyon, established its course approximately six million years ago.
  • The geological evidence present, including the rock layers, tectonic activity, and paleontological records, offers an incredible window into Earth's geological past.
  • Detailed sketches by figures such as John Wesley Powell, who first identified the "Great Unconformity" in the stratigraphy of the Grand Canyon, provide essential information in understanding the scale and complexity of this natural wonder.
  • Furthermore, variations in estimates of the age of the Grand Canyon suggest more than one geological process at play, with some estimates suggesting an origin related to the Laramide orogeny between 50 to 70 million years ago.
