Draw a line through the vertex where angle x is that is parallel to the other two lines. That line splits angle x into two angles, an upper angle and a lower angle.

By alternate interior angles, the lower angle that is part of angle x measures 70 deg. Also by alternate interior angles, the upper angle that is part of angle x measures 40 deg.

x = 70 + 40 = 110
