You will be provided a mockup building that contains the following information:

a description of the building and operations
the utility bills outlining current energy consumption
a list of major energy consuming equipment
Synthesizing the information you’ve learned in your course readings, discussions and other materials, and supplementing this with your own research, develop an energy management plan for your mockup building. The component parts of an energy management plan can vary significantly. For the purposes of this assignment, the energy management plan should contain the following information, at minimum:
A building profile
A brief evaluation of what is driving energy consumption at the building
A baseline of your building’s current energy performance
A comparison of your building’s energy performance against other similar buildings in Canada
A brief description on where energy is being used within your building
A description of at least three initial energy management opportunities and an estimate of cost and savings. Ex. LED lighting upgrade, HVAC upgrade, motor upgrade, etc.
A description of additional likely energy management opportunities you will be assessing further. Describe your plan for further assessment. Ex. Installing heat recovery, upgrading compressed air systems, upgrading windows and doors, etc.
A description of behavioral energy management and/or energy management systems you’d recommend implementing.
A recommended energy performance target for your mockup building that’s reasonable and achievable.
A recommended plan to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the energy management plan and building energy performance.
A detailed action plan for implementing the energy management plan, prioritizing actions, as appropriate.
The report should be a minimum 2300 words and APA formatted and referenced. The format of the Energy Management Plan is at your discretion but should be organized logically.
To assist in the preparation of your Energy Management Plan, Energy Management Plan templates and sample Energy Management Plans have been included in the Additional Readings section of Unit 10

Final answer:

Developing an energy management plan involves analyzing current energy performance, comparing it to similar buildings, and highlighting areas for efficiency improvements. Identification of both immediate improvements, like LED upgrades, and long-term projects, like upgrading building insulation, is critical. A plan to monitor, evaluate, and implement these changes ensures ongoing energy efficiency and cost savings.

Step-by-step explanation:

Creating an energy management plan for a mockup building involves a comprehensive approach to understand, manage, and reduce energy consumption. A building profile would detail the characteristics of the structure such as size, type, and occupancy. An evaluation of drivers of energy consumption might include building operations, occupant behavior, and efficiency of equipment. A baseline of current energy performance sets the standard for comparison and improvement. This baseline is then compared against similar buildings in Canada to gauge performance. A description of where energy is used, such as lighting, heating, and cooling systems, pinpoints specific areas for potential energy savings and efficiency improvements. In identifying energy management opportunities, the plan should include a cost and savings estimate for initiatives like LED lighting, HVAC upgrades, and motor replacements. Further assessments could delve into heat recovery systems, compressed air system upgrades, and window and door improvements. Behavioral energy management strategies and energy management systems, like smart thermostats or energy monitoring software, are also vital for sustainable energy use. The plan would set a reasonable and achievable energy performance target, recommend a strategy for monitoring and evaluating building energy performance, and provide an action plan for the implementation of the energy management program. Conclusion The comprehensive energy management plan serves as a roadmap for reducing energy consumption, improving efficiency, and contributing to environmental sustainability. By following the systematic steps outlined, the mockup building can realize substantial cost savings and energy reductions, while setting an example for similar structures within the community.
